Key Dreams Fishing Reports 2020

KeyDreams, Mon. 9 Nov. 2020, Limit of Nice sized Grey Trout

We had a Mom and Dad take their kids out fishing with us today.  We had a Beautiful Day with lite winds and calm seas which made it easier for these young anglers to master their fishing techniques.  We caught 5 nice Keeper Grey Trout up to 24 inches giving Mom and Dad plenty of Fresh Trout for Dinner.  We didn’t catch any Striper, Puppy Drum or Bull Reds today, but they are still here.  We had a lot of fun with these guys and were looking forward to fishing with them again.  Lots of Fun.

KeyDreams, Thur. 15 Oct 2020, Flounder, Drum and Tog

My Mate and I found ourselves out on another Beautiful Day with lite winds.  As the season shifts into fall mode the Spadefish and Spanish Mackerel have left and the Flounder have become more elusive.  We still managed one Keeper Flounder and the normal fall stuff like Puppy Drum, Trout and Tog were biting, but the Striper didn’t seem to be biting today.  Our Salty Dog Daisy had to inspect the catch before I cleaned them for dinner. Lots of fun.

KeyDreams, Wed. 07 Oct. 2020, Puppy Drum, Bluefish, and Flounder,

Today we got a few of our close friends out fishing with us looking for Flounder.  We ended up doing better on the Red Drum and Bluefish today.  With fishing you often just need to be thankful for what the good Lord gives you.  We caught flounder but they were all too small to keep today, but the Puppy Drum and Bluefish were fighting hard today and just the right size for the cooler and eating.  It was a beautiful sunny day with south winds.  Lots of fun with good friends.

KeyDreams, Thur. 1 Oct 2020, Citation Red Drum, Flounder

My Mate and I had another chance to get out for ourselves out on a Beautiful Day with lite winds.  This time I got the Big Bull Red Drum action and landed a Beautiful 50 incher and Qualified for the Virginia Big Fish Citation Award.  I had to joke on my mate telling her that the one she caught may have been bigger, but mine was better looking.  The Big Red was released and swam off strong to fight another day.  We also got Flounder, Grey Trout, Bluefish, Seabass, Oyster Toads and such.  Lots of fun.

KeyDreams, Thu. 24 Sept. 2020, Big Red Bull Drum, Flounder and Seabass

Today the weather got nice so my First Mate and I took advantage of the break in the weather and got out for a couple hours.  The offshore swells laid down to 1 foot and the wind and rain were holding off, well the rain snuck back in but at least it was light and didn’t last long while we were fishing.  We started looking for some Flounder for dinner and my First Mate caught a couple nice Flounder and we also caught a couple surprise Keeper Seabass (rare in the bay).  We also hooked into a Big Bull Red Drum measuring in at 51 inches for a release citation.

KeyDreams, Thu. 17 Sep. 2020, Flounder, Grey Trout, Shark and lost Cobia

We had a Group of Friends get out fishing with Key Dreams this morning for a quick trip before the remnants of Hurricane Sally got to us.  September/October is our second windy season.  It had been blowing North and/or East for 2 weeks so we were really looking forward to getting out.  Yesterday the forecast for today was supposed to be partly sunny with light wind and calmer seas until around 2 in the afternoon then this morning the forecast shifted and the rain was supposed to start heavy around noon, so we adjusted accordingly and got underway a little earlier.  It was looking good on the Chesapeake Bay, not exactly calm but quite fishable.  We got to fishing and the fish were bighting unfortunately Mother Nature decided to pick up speed and it starter to rain on and off starting around 9 in the morning.  Out came the rain gear, these guys were good to keep fishing.  These guys quickly got the hang of the bite and got 6 flounder with 5 for the cooler up to 22 inches.  We also got a Shark for pics and release, and a couple nice Grey Trout (weakfish) up to 17 inches.   One of the guys hooked up a Cobia while Flounder fishing but it threw the hook at the boat just after we got to see it.  We also caught the other stuff like Toads, Seabass, and a Pufferfish.  Around 11 in the morning the east wind started picking up with the cold rain and it was time to go in for the day, we just slipped in a trip before the next blow.  Lots of Fun and good eating Flounder for Dinner.

KeyDreams, Fri. 4 Sep. 2020, Limit of Spadefish and Flounder,

We had a Family Fun Fishing trip today.  This Grandma used to First Mate with Her Beloved Husband and still loves fishing, and still has the skills.  It was a beautiful day with light winds and calm seas on the Chesapeake Bay.  We got on the Spadefish first thing and Grandma surprised us with her skills by catching 2 spadefish at the same time (Crazy Lucky).  Once they got their limit of Spadefish we shifted over to Flounder Fishing.  We got on the Flounder Hunt and we caught 4 with 2 for the cooler.  The Cobia were cruising around and we tried to feed a couple but they were finicky for us today, we had a couple short strikes but didn’t get any hookups.  We also caught the normal other stuff like little Seabass, Oyster Toads and such.  Lots of Fun.

Key Dreams, January to June 30 2020, Finally Phase 3 Corvid-19, reopening

Phase 3 is workable for us and we are now getting folks out fishing again.  Basically we are now able to operate kind of like a restaurant, Family/Group that schedule together can fish together.  We are encouraging smaller groups then 6 like 4 passengers to help maintain Comfortable Spacing during the current corvid-19 situation.  Mask is Mandatory indoors and optional outdoors.  There is a Questionnaire to fill out to ensure no one who is sick gets on the boat.

Corvid-19 Phase 1 and 2 reopening was painful and not an opening for us.  Everybody wanted to go fishing and we were scheduling just in case we could go but when the date came they couldn’t meet the strict State Mandate.  I think I cancelled more trip in April, May, and June then in the last 20 years combined.  I had folks that scheduled during phase 1 for future vacation plans that qualified for phase 1 but then phase 2 came in they now longer met the more stringent State Mandate and had to cancel their trips, to say Frustrating is an understatement.
